CROWN POINT — Prosecutors told a jury Monday that a Chicago man allegedly committed a killing because the victim would not allow the man to hold his newborn baby.

Ray Dampier, 44, sat alone at the defense table after he decided to proceed pro se, representing himself without a lawyer. Dampier was charged with the murder of Devonte Brown, his former girlfriend's sister's boyfriend, in May 2022.
